Requirements

What You Need to Start

Before you enroll at All-In CDL, make sure you meet these basic requirements. Most students qualify — if you're not sure, call us and we'll help you figure it out.

Minimum Age

You must be at least 21 years old to drive interstate (across state lines) as a Class A CDL driver. Illinois allows 18-year-olds to obtain a CDL for intrastate driving only (within Illinois).

Valid Driver's License

You need a valid, unrestricted Illinois (or other state) driver's license. A suspended or revoked license must be resolved before you can obtain a CLP or CDL.

DOT Physical & Drug Test

Commercial drivers must pass a DOT physical exam and a drug test before operating a commercial vehicle. We'll walk you through where to get both done near Des Plaines or Zion.

English Proficiency

Federal regulations require commercial drivers to read, speak, and understand basic English — enough to converse with the public, understand road signs, respond to official inquiries, and complete reports. You don't need to be fluent; All-In CDL builds English support directly into training.

Work Authorization

You must be legally authorized to work in the United States to be employed as a commercial driver after training.

Clean-Enough Driving & Background History

Certain violations, a revoked license, or a disqualifying criminal history can affect CDL eligibility. See our FAQ page for more on what can disqualify a CDL applicant, or call us to discuss your specific situation.
